88 Deluxe Rack & Pinion Steering Unit Rebuild Kit

This kit is for 1988 Fieros ONLY. It will NOT work on 1984-87 Fieros. The 84-87 rack is completely different.

– (1) Lower Pinion Bearing
– (1) Upper Pinion Bearing
– (1) Upper Pinion Housing Seal
– (2) Inner Tie Rod Ends
– (2) Outer Tie Rod Ends
– (4) 10.9 Grade Rack-to-Crossmember Bolt

There are two bearings and one seal that are needed to rebuild your rack and pinion steering unit, which are included in this kit. The two bearings are what the pinion gear rotate inside of and the seal keeps outside contaminants from getting inside the housing.

It also includes inner and outer tie rod ends and new 10.9 Grade bolts to replace your rusted out bolts. Even my California cars had really rusted and corroded crossmember bolts. Definitely a good idea to replace them with stronger than factory bolts so you don’t have to worry about one breaking off in he future.

The bearings are an exact fit and do not require any modification of your rack and pinion steering unit to install.

NOTE: In some cases, you may also need a passenger side bushing if there’s a lot of slop in the rack on that side. I rebuilt both of my 88 GT’s using this kit and neither needed a new bushing, however, yours may. The passenger side bushing was discontinued decades ago by GM and I do not have any more of these available. Early 88’s had a metal bushing that should never wear out but later models had a nylon bushing that can wear out over time.
