An order is for ONE SET OF TWO custom-made camber caster alignment jigs which is enough to set the alignment on one front wheel at a time.
If you want to align both front wheels at the same time, you need to buy a quantity of two sets of two jigs, which would be 4 individual jigs. The reason you may want to buy 2 sets of two tools, is because it is significantly easier to set up both left and right front wheels at the same time.
Background:
GM had a special tool made by Kent-Moore J-36419 that was used by their dealerships which aided in aligning the front wheel of the 1988 Pontiac Fiero (All models: coupe, Formula, GT). The tool bolts to the front and rear of the upper A-arm and presses against the frame to keep the A-arm secure and allow fine adjustments. That tool is no longer available and is very difficult to find in USED rusty condition, let alone new. For a set of 2, in the rare occasion it shows up for sale, they would be going for over $120. If you wanted two sets to align both wheels at the same time, you were looking at over $200-250 easy for a heavily used tool.
How it Works:
This tool allows one to do a home alignment extremely precisely. I have done my own alignments on my 88 Fieros both with and without this tool, and this tool makes it 10x easier and faster to get an extremely precise alignment the first time, which is why GM had a similar tool produced for their dealerships. Without this tool, I would have to set the upper a-arm and tighten it down and hope it hadn’t shifted while I was tightening it, and then hope that it was on spec when I put the car back on the ground and moved it around.
As an 88 Fiero owner that does his own alignments, and after unsuccessfully finding the Kent-Moore tool for a reasonable price, I decided it would make sense to reproduce this tool for my own use. As a Fiero lover, I recently decided I would make these available to fellow enthusiasts even though I know this is a limited market, seeing as how there were only 26,402 Fieros made in 1988, and probably half are off the road and maybe only 10% of the remaining owners even do their own alignments.
I recently aligned using my custom jigs, my 88 daily driver, which I could never get “just right” (even after 10 or more attempts to get it set up the way I wanted it) and using this tool, the alignment is perfect now. As most of you know, an 88 with a perfect alignment, is like night and day. I’ve had my Fieros aligned at tire shops and GM dealerships in the past and this is by far the best alignment I’ve ever had.
Instructions on usage:
I include detailed instructions on how to use the alignment jigs. You should have a basic understanding of aligning an 88 Fiero. You will need a camber gauge and if you don’t have one, in the instructions I include information on where to get a cheap ($40) gauge you can use that works well.
