Your Fiero A/C doesn’t blow cold anymore?
Well you have a few options:
1) Convert to a costly, higher pressure, more leak prone and less efficient system of R134.
2) Grin and bear it and tell yourself that a lot of people actually pay money to sit in a sauna.
3) Get your factory R12 system back up to speed.
Unfortunately, I like most Fiero owners had resigned myself that 1) was not an option I wanted to go down to monkey with my beloved Fieros and 3) seemed unobtainable, so I settled on 2) for many a hot summer.
Fierogear to the rescue: I have been able to procure a limited supply of 14 oz cans of various brands of genuine R12. I had originally just intended to get enough to charge up my own Fieros, but figured I might be able to pass along my good fortune to help out my fellow Fiero owners as well.
Two common scenarios I’ve heard from Fiero owners:
Scenario A: I’ve had several owners tell me they have a qualified mechanic that is willing to work on their Fiero’s A/C system, but he doesn’t have any R12 and can’t get any or can but doesn’t want to order it for just one person/car.
Scenario B: Some owners are qualified and want to work on their Fiero’s A/C system but haven’t been able to get their hands on the R12 they need.
Fierogear is now offering the cost-effective solution to either scenario. Tell your mechanic you will supply him the R12 if he will do the work, or if you’re qualified, do it yourself.
Don’t waste your money and energy converting to a less efficient and more leak prone R134 system. The cost to convert can run from $500-$1000 depending upon how thorough a job the shop does. For a reliable conversion, the following components should be changed: Compressor, Evaporator, Condensor, O-rings, and possibly some or all of the Lines. That in addition to the cost or the R134 refrigerant which is probably $20 a can. Any cost-cutting conversions such as not switching out the compressor will likely result in catastrophic failure or a leaky system and paying to do it all over again in a few months. That and the Fiero’s notoriously hot engine compartment could make the higher pressure R134 more prone to leaking around the compressor and rear lines, than in front engine applications.
Why go through the headache when for considerably less money you can recharge your Fiero air conditioning system with NOS R12 Refrigerant?
When you order, I will send whichever brand I have in stock at the time. Pictured is a few of the brands I currently have but inventory changes, but all are 14 oz and genuine R12. This is the real deal. Not “12a” or imitation products.
The Fiero capacity is listed at 2.7 pounds of refrigerant.
Three cans of 14oz is 2.63 pounds. So three cans should fill you up from empty to full.
